Albert S. Olson was born in Kijungshan, Hunan, China on September 11, 1917, being the son of missionary parents, Arthur and Minnie Olson. His grade school and high school education was received in China. He graduated from Augsburg College of Minneapolis, attended the Lutheran Bible Institute of Minneapolis, and graduated from Augsburg Theological Seminary. In preparation for the missionary service in China, he attended the University of California in Berkeley, studying the Chinese language. In 1946 Albert left for the Lutheran Free Church mission field in the Province of Hunan, China, but due to the eventual takeover of the area by the communist army, it became necessary for him to return to the U.S. On August 5, 1950, Albert married Anna Marie Strand of Bemidji, MN. Together they raised three daughters, Barbara, Patricia, and Rebecca while serving for eight years as missionaries in Taiwan, and pastoring congregations in Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; and Barronett, Amery, and Birnamwood, all in WI. Following his retirement in 1982, he and Anna were members of Deronda Lutheran Church and most recently, Amery Free Lutheran Church. Albert died on November 7, 2014 at Willow Ridge Healthcare in Amery, Wisconsin, at the age of 97. Preceding Albert in his death were his wife, Anna; parents; sister, Evelyn Carlson; and brother, Orville. He is survived by his three daughters, Barbara (John) Fahrendholz, Patricia (John) Rieth, and Rebecca (Timothy) Kjeseth; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at the Amery Free Lutheran Church. A visitation will be held the hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at the Deronda Cemetery.
