Obituary

Allen "Slippery" Duane Olson was born on August 20, 1945 in Cylon Township of St. Croix County, Wisconsin. He was the son of Sheldon and Helen (Hanson) Olson. He attended Deer Park grade school and New Richmond and Amery High Schools. In 1963 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he spent most of his time aboard ship serving as a signal man. In 1966 he returned to the United States and after a little time traveling he returned home. In 1968 he married Bev Martinson and to this union two sons were born; Brandon Allen Olson and Brock Allen Olson. Throughout his life he worked at Whirlpool, New Brighton Arsenal and Doboy where he was a machinist. He retired from Doboy in 2001. He was active in the Wanderoos Area Lions Club, Garfield Fire Department and also spent time as bartender at UW Wanderoos. He enjoyed coaching 4-H Softball and women's teams. He played fast pitch, slo-pitch and big ball. Al also spent time teaching Sunday School and Bible School. He enjoyed the outdoors and the hunting and fishing it provided. He bowled; pitched horseshoes, played pool and his last love was golfing. He thought the world of his family and friends and loved riding his red scooter. He passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2013 at the age of 67 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Jonah Edward Olson; Brothers Richard, Royal and Darryl Olson; sister Barb Polfus; brothers-in-law: Douglas Owen and Dave Jahnke; sister-in-law Lois Olson; father-in-law Arden Martinson and many good friends. Left to mourn are his wife Bev; sons: Brandon (Michelle Evans) Olson , Brock (Sara) Olson; grandchildren: Connor and Kennedi Olson; sisters: Beverly Owen, Liz Jahnke, Dolly (Jim) Hemauer; brothers: Larry (Diane) Olson, David (Pam) Olson; sisters-in-law: Marlene Kittel and Carol Olson; mother-in-law Evelyn Martinson; God son Mike A. Olson and God daughter Jeni (Jurgensen) Sigsworth as well as many other relatives and friends. There was only one Slippery Al Olson!


Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Deronda Lutheran Church in rural Amery. There will be visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and for the hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Sand Lake Cemetery.
