Andrew William Steltzner was born on September 18, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota. His parents, Bonnie (Blowers) and Andrew Floyd Steltzner were both born and reared in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Andy attended Edison High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served his country, training as a bombardier. Following his military service he attended and graduated from Hamline University. On July 23, 1949, he was united in marriage to Virginia Lynch at the Lake Street Methodist Church in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and four daughters were born.
Andy worked for Wisconsin Blue Cross for many years. Once his daughters were grown he began a career trucking. He traveled to all 48 states, Mexico, and Canada. When he retired from trucking he purchased the Camelot Motel in Amery. He and his wife Virginia ran the motel from 1985 to 1998.
Andy was a life- long Packer fan, and in the Lombardi era, took the family to a few Packer games and scrimmages. He enjoyed aviation as a hobby and earned his pilot's license. He was an avid reader and liked exploring history, especially that of the United States. He spent countless hours going to the Amery Public Library and after his stroke in 1996; he appreciated Elaine bringing him books so he could continue to read. Family camping trips in the summer was always an enjoyable pass-time. One memorable summer was spent camping and touring all the major Civil War battle sites in the South. Family was of major importance to him and he loved his family. Andy died at Golden Age Manor in Amery on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the age of 88 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Virginia, and Sister Ethel. Survivors include his daughters: Virginia (Verle) Ormsby, Judith (Jim) Clancy, Becky Steltzner (Mike), and Bonnie (Bill) Kath; grandchildren: Karen Kath, James Kath, Patrick Ormsby and Paul Ormsby. He also leaves other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Congregational Church in Amery with a time of visitation the hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Amery Cemetery.
