Arden Dean Westerberg was born on June 12, 1925 in Forest City, Iowa the son of Rollie and Ruth (Tweeten) Westerberg. He grew up on the family farm in Iowa. He graduated from Forest City High School. He loved farming so much that he immediately rented farm land to begin his own farming career. Uncle Sam came calling and Arden came to the twin cities to be inducted to serve in the Army during World War II. While there he met Garnett Eastland. They hit it off, and after he returned from the service they were married on February 22, 1947. They made their home in Iowa where they farmed. In 1953 they moved to Wisconsin where they farmed in Black Brook Township. Arden was a member of the Northern Wisconsin Draft Horse Association. For several years he provided the horses and wagon for the annual Holiday Stoll in Amery. He was a member of the Clear Lake VFW and over the years did a lot of volunteer work. Arden was a dedicated family man. He continued a singing ministry, visiting people and doing services at Golden Age Manor. He enjoyed tinkering and taking care of his John Deere Tractors, and was very proud to show them to people. In 1972 he and Garnett built a new home, but never really retired from farming. Arden died at his home in rural Amery on Wednesday morning, September 28, 2011 at the age of 86 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter Maxine Carol. Left to mourn are his wife Garnett; sons: Douglas (Carol) Westerberg and Arlyn (Leona) Westerberg; daughters: Susan (Rollie) Jussila, Pat Mayfield and Sally (Jerry) Dressler; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; brothers: Donald (Edell) Westerberg, Rodney (Rogene) Westerberg; sisters: Vivian (Amery) Charlson, Marjorie (Don) Olson, and Muriel (Richard) Lowenberg as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 11:00.a.m. at the United Covenant Church in Clear Lake, Wisconsin. Burial will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and for the hour prior to the service at the church.
