Arthur Nelson Boham, age 87, of Amery passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 8, 2014 at his home. He was born on December 15, 1926 to Nelson and Eunice Sanders, joining his sisters Lois and Pauline on the family farm in Corning, Iowa. After his father's passing, he moved to Pine River, MN at the age of 7 with his mother and sisters. He quit school in the 8th grade to help support the family with odd jobs. At the age of 16, he moved to Minneapolis, MN where he took a job at Honeywell as Millwright and pretty much Jack of all Trades. On September 28, 1944 he joined the Coast Guard during WWII to serve his country. He served on the USS Wakefield and various other vessels. He received the American Area Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and World War Two Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on June 5, 1946 at the end of the war. On February 12, 1954 he married his "Little One", the love of his life, Marlyss Walton, whom he had known since she was an infant as he had worked for her dad. On August 23, 1964 they welcomed their first daughter, Paula Jean into the world and on January 17, 1967 they welcomed their second daughter, Rhonda Lee. Art cherished his daughters more than anything and anyone who knew him knew this. Art retired from Honeywell in 1988 after 44 ½ years' service. He enjoyed his many years of retirement hanging with friends, tinkering on things, going out for breakfast, watching his westerns and doing his word search puzzles. Art was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Eunice, Sister Lois, brother-in-law Mike Schultz, Sister Pauline, and brother-in-law Woody Neal. He is survived by his "Sweetheart" Marlyss, the daughters he held so dear, Paula (Quint) Boham-Lenz and Rhonda (Jason)Kobernick, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Luke (Jessie) Hoffman, Cerrita (Joe) Houston and Kyle (Brittney) Hoffman and the great grandchildren that brought a smile to his face, Mason, Cooper, Zane, Liam, Julia and William. He was beloved by all who met him and brought a smile to many a face. He will be greatly missed. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at their home in rural Amery.
