Bernice R. Anderson, age 87 of Amery, Wisconsin passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the Willow Ridge Nursing Home in Amery. Bernice was born to Floyd and Clara Waterman on May 1, 1923 in New Richmond, WI. She attended school at Pleasant View Country School and graduated from Amery High School. Bernice married Kenneth Anderson on November 18, 1944. They made their home in Clayton, WI and later moved to Amery. To this union seven children were born. Bernice worked at FabriTek in Amery, Kroy Industries in Dresser and also did hand sewing of silk ties for a tie company in Chippewa Falls, WI. During her working years and then later in retirement, Kenny and Bernice would venture north to Lake Superior and spend many hours at their cabin in Port Wing, WI. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Amery, and participated in the quilt making group. She loved cooking and trying new recipes. Her passion for cooking was evident with an extensive collection of cookbooks. She also enjoyed gardening and spent hours giving tender, loving care to her flowers. Bernice had visions of making things new. She would see one man's junk as her TREASURE. In the quest for treasures, she traveled the garage sale circuit and would delight in showing her latest find. Perhaps one of her greatest talents was sewing; she could not pass up a good deal on a piece of material and then tuck it away until just the right project came along. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth; brothers, Lawrence, Clifford, and Dale (Bud). She is survived by her seven children: Bernell Handrahan (Ray Weeks) of New Richmond, WI; Kenrad (Gloria) Anderson of Dresser, WI; Jone (Tim) Baker of Jim Falls, WI; Bradley (Nyla) Anderson of Amery; Brent Anderson of Amery; Mary Anderson (John Reid) of Colorado Springs, CO; and Beth Anderson of Bloomer, WI. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Tom Handrahan of Osceola, WI; Tracy Meredith of Roberts, WI; Pat Handrahan of St. Cloud, MN; Jeff Anderson of Lindstrom, MN; Michelle Nyreen of Cameron, WI; Jason Anderson of St. Paul, MN; Chad Shelby of Charleston, IL; Jennifer Patterson of Red Wing, MN; Sarah Anderson of Pullman, WA; Garrison Anderson of Amery; Steve Nadeau of St. Croix Falls, WI; Kyle Reid and Travis Reid of Colorado Springs, CO; Laura Hazeltine of Bloomer, WI; and Jerermiah Johnson of Bloomer, WI; as well as 19 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She will also be missed by her sisters, Charlotte Brevold and Avis Morrisey, both of Amery. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Amery, with Pastor Keith Ruehlow officiating. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Williamson-White Funeral Home, 222 Harriman Ave. N., Amery, WI; as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are Bernice's grandsons. Interment will be at the Marsh Lake Cemetery.
