Bernyce Abbott Berg was born on September 11, 1914 to Oscar and Sayde Anderson in Rockford, Minnesota. She attended Rockford schools until her senior year when she moved with her parents to Hinckley, MN. Starting in her elementary school years she took piano lessons and as a youngster accompanied many singers and instrumentalists
in the Rockford and Hinckley area. Bernyce graduated high school at age 16, then entered Macalister College, graduating from the Miss Woods School at that college four years later. She then taught for three years in Strawberry Point, Iowa concurrently meeting Adrian Riveland. They were married in 1939, living in Luana, Iowa subsequently having a son, Chase Riveland.

Bernyce in 1946 divorced Adrian Riveland and moved to Barron, WI and taught kindergarten and elementary music for two years; then moved to Amery, where her parents owned the Super Value store. There she taught kindergarten and elementary music for four years. During that time she met and married Marv Berg. They then moved to Glenwood City where they both taught for 8 ½years. As Marv became a school administrator they lived in Hammond for four and one-half years; Waunakee, WI for 15 years; Beaver Dam for four years; and Madison for six years. They then retired to Amery in 1989. From there they traveled around the United States and Europe. After Marv passed away, Bernyce proudly lived in her own home for 12 years, assisted by friends and caregivers.

In all of the various communities they lived in Bernyce volunteered in libraries, nursing homes, tutoring children, and several community organizations. She continued her music in several of the communities, putting on elementary school musicals. Her primary passion in life was her family.

She was predeceased by her husband Marvin; parents, Oscar and Sayde Anderson; her brother and sister-in-law Norval and Eunice Anderson; and granddaughter, Beth Riveland.

Surviving her are her son, Chase Riveland (wife Mary) of Deer Harbor, Washington; granddaughter Wendi Hanson (husband Mark) of Dallas, Texas; great grandson Joshua Hanson of Austin, Texas; niece Diane Morken of Mankato, MN; nephew John Anderson (Laurie) of Amery.

A funeral service was held at Williamson-White Funeral home on Wednesday September 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Barry Schaefer officiating. Her cremains will be buried at the Amery Cemetery. There will be a visiting time for the hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
