Obituary

Carmen Waalen passed away at Golden Age Manor in Amery on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the age of 90 years. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Little Falls Lutheran Church in rural Amery. There will be a time of visitation for the hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Little Falls Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the Little Falls Lutheran Church.



Carmen Emma Waalen was one of a set of twins born in Alden Township of Polk County, Wisconsin on July 22, 1922. She was the daughter of Clyde and Freda (Zilmer) Marquand. She grew up in Alden Township and attended the Little Falls School. She was Baptized and Confirmed at the Little Falls Lutheran Church where she has been a lifelong member. On February 9, 1944 she was united in marriage to Clifford A. Waalen in Stillwater, Minnesota. They farmed together in Alden Township where they raised their family. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and crocheting. She was active with the quilters at her church for many years. She enjoyed the outdoors and watching birds. After Clifford's death she remained in her home until December of 2012 when she moved to Golden Age Manor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford, son Myron; brothers : Ralph, Henry and twin Warren Marquand. Surviving family members include her children Pat Wade and Kirby (Nancy) Waalen; 4 grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.
