David L. Mathews, age 62 of Amery, WI passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at his home in Amery. He was born on March 25, 1950 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to Harold and Elsie (Whitrock) Mathews. He grew up in and attended school in Beaver Dam. After finishing High School, David built silos, worked at Kraft Foods and at his dad's bakery prior to entering the military. Dave was a member of the US Marine Corps and served in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Dave was united in marriage to Jean (Peterson) Mathews on June 27, 1992. He was an active member of the Amery VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed going four wheeling up North and being in the outdoors, especially to hunt and fish and enjoyed walking his dog. Dave was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Dave is survived by his loving wife, Jean; step-son Jeff (Jennifer) Johnson, step-daughter Jennifer Johnson (Paul Davidson) and grandchildren, Jacob Johnson, Brittney Davidson, Jessica Johnson, Dylan Davidson, Alyssa Davidson, Brayden Davidson and Brandon Mathews. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at Deronda Lutheran in rural Amery, with a lunch following. A visitation will be held the hour prior to the service at the church.
