David Earl Paulson was born in Nye, WI on September 13, 1931 to Oscar and Addie (Anderson) Paulson, the youngest of four sons. Dave attended grade school at Meadowview and graduated from Osceola High School in 1949. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at West Immanuel Lutheran Church of Osceola, Wi. Dave received his Life Scout badge in Boy Scouts at the age of 16 years old. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 where we worked as a metal smith and sailed throughout the Mediterranean Sea, Pacific, Atlanta, and Caribbean Oceans finishing his tour of duty February 9th 1956. He farmed for a short time prior to working as a draftsman for Champion Aircraft. Dave met Edith Monson on a blind date arranged by his sister-in-law on November 8th, 1956 and they married on August 3, 1957. Dave owned a small trucking business and Edith taught business classes for the Amery School District. In 1961 Dave sold his trucking business and moved his family to rural Amery to a 130 acre dairy farm on the Apple River. Dave drove school bus for the Amery School District for four years including a 2 week trip with the FFA students to British Columbia in 1965. He was chosen as one of Wisconsin's Outstanding Farmers in 1970. Dave served on the Amery Ambulance board and has been an elected official for much of his life including: Chairman and Supervisor for Black Brook Township for over 28 years, a role in which he was still currently serving, and was on the Polk County Board of Supervisors for 10 years. Dave served the citizens of the 28th Assembly District for 8 years beginning in 1978 as a Wisconsin State Representative under Governors Sherman Dreyfuss, Tony Earl and Tommy Thompson. Dave was able to travel with Tommy Thompson to Norway, and meet the then president Ronald Reagan. Dave co-authored a bill with fellow assemblyman Robert Larson (Medford) to legalize lutefisk in March 1982. Dave served as a deacon, secretary and president of the Church Council at East Immanuel Lutheran Church for 15 years over his 53 years as a member there. Dave was a member of the Republican Party at the State and local level. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars; serving as Commander for two different terms. Dave traveled extensively throughout 48 states and 23 countries instilling in his children a similar love of travel inspired by family trips from the East to West coast of the United States and into Canada. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, two with his son Eric and many years of deer hunting with friends. Dave owned two teams of Belgian draft horses and enjoyed participating in draft horse field days and parades. Dave enjoyed springtime maple syruping, and making the traditional Scandinavian fare including lefse and lutefisk. Dave and Edith had been married for over 57 years and have two children, 8 grandchildren, and five great grandsons. Dave passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 with his wife at his side.David is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Curtis and Gordon. David is survived by his loving wife Edith; Daughter Linnae (Glenn) Seaman of Amery; Son Eric (Terri) Paulson of Amery; grandchildren Tara (Jesse) Weiss of Durand, Wi; Kristy Paulson of Eau Claire, Wi; Eric Seaman of Lake Mills, Wi.; Addie (Ash) Holzmann of Parkton, NC; Adam (Rikki) Seaman of Amery; Preston Paulson of Bellingham, WA; and Gabriel and Bennett Paulson of Amery; and great grandsons David and Owen Holzmann and Jaxson, Eli and Silas Weiss. Dave also leaves a brother Lewis of Roseburg, Oregon to mourn as well as brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. We will miss his quick wit and his golden smile.Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at East Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Amery. There will be a visitation at the Williamson-White funeral home on Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and for an hour prior to the funeral service at the Church. A private family interment will be at the East Immanuel Cemetery.
