Balsam Lake

Obituary

Dean Scott Grill passed away peacefully on November 16, 2023 at age 66. We find comfort in knowing that his favorite place was at Balsam Lake, WI, where he and his wife, Jill, recently retired, and that he was enjoying his life right up until the end.

Scott was born in St. Paul, MN on March 11, 1957 to Ambrose and Ruth (Almquist) Grill. He grew up in Plymouth, MN, participating in football, track and field, and wrestling through high school. He graduated from Wayzata High School in 1975 and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, graduating in 1979. After meeting Jill at college they were united in marriage on November 28, 1981 at Elim Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. Scott worked for over 40 years in sales and marketing for telecommunication companies beginning in Fargo, ND; Bismarck, ND; Mankato, MN and settled in St. Peter, MN where he and Jill lived for 35 years.

He loved to spend time outdoors hunting, fishing and golfing or finding any opportunity to work with his hands building things. Scott was happiest when surrounded by friends and family, playing games, listening to music, telling stories and laughing. He had also recently found a new passion in playing mischievous "grandpa games" with his grandsons. With an endless amount of love and compassion, Scott was always willing to lend an ear and offer advice to everyone he knew. His gregarious presence at gatherings will be sorely missed.

Scott is survived by his wife, Jill, whom he shared 42 years of marriage. Survived also by sons Zach (Angela), Adam (Ashley), and Jacob; 3 grandsons (Ezra, Luca and Beckett); sister Gaye (James) Mazzei; brothers Paul (Suzanne), Peter (Deborah), Todd (Jenny); and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A celebration of Scott's life will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023 at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter, MN with a luncheon following. Visitation will be at 10:00 am with a service following at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Heart Association or The Alzheimer's Association.
