Obituary

Donavan Roland Volrath passed away peacefully on June 18th, 2017 at Golden Age Manor at the age of 78.

He served in the military on the USS Midway. He finished his active duty in 1959 and continued on serving in the Naval Reserves until 1962. He married Karen Ann Gilberts on June 25, 1960 and raised 5 children in Amery, Wisconsin. Don loved to play his accordion for family and friends. He loved the outdoors and had a special love for felines. If there were any hungry cats dad would feed them. Don was a proud blue collar worker. He worked at F&A Dairy in Dresser, Wisconsin but found his passion as a lineman/tree trimmer for American Tree and Davy tree companies.

Don is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Vicki Bignell of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Cindy Volrath of Amery, Wisconsin; sons, Dan (Sandy) Volrath of Amery, Wisconsin, Eric Volrath of Eagan, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren,; a son-in-law, Bruce Dick and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Denise; Mother and Father in law, Gordon & Ethel Gilberts; a sister, Mary Drehmel.

Private Family Graveside Services will be held for Donavan and Karen Volrath at 11 AM on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Amery Cemetery with Pastor Randy Schussman officiating.

A Public Celebration of Life for friends and family will be held after the graveside service in the basement of the Birch Street Bar and Grill in Amery, Wisconsin.
