Doran (Corky) Ketz, born on March 11, 1930, passed away on June 27, 2018 at Lakeview Hospital; Stillwater, MN following a series of chronic health issues. Born in Vance Creek Township Wisconsin, Doran attended Meadow Brook School where he was given the life-long nickname of Corky, a spinoff character from the comic strip known as Gasoline Alley. From there, he transferred to the Schiller School in Northeast Minneapolis, and then returned to Clayton where he graduated from high school in 1948. Following a year at the University of Wisconsin in Rice Lake, he married Sharon Shern and, together, they took over the family farm near Reeve. He was owner and operator of his dairy farm until his retirement in 1991. While farming, Corky was an active member and leader in AMPI. Following retirement from farming, he was an active participant with the Volunteers of Overseas Cooperative Assistance (VOCA), a program under the auspices of the U.S. State Department. His work included supporting the development of individual farm cooperatives in the emerging countries of the former Soviet Union, particularly republics in Eastern Europe and central Asia. Among the first Americans to work in these areas, Doran was seen as a good will ambassador on behalf of rural America. In 1997, Corky was recognized for his outstanding service. In addition, Corky and Sherry's service was featured in The Farm Journal and several other publications. After moving from Clayton to Stillwater in 2009, Corky became a committed volunteer with FOCUS Minnesota, an Orthodox Christian charitable non-profit which directly serves domestic urban poverty. Corky was also a bus driver for the Clayton School district, serving the southeast Clayton community from 1963 -1982 with bus service that was timely and safe. He also served as a 4-H leader for the Meadow Larks club. A life-long member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, Corky served as parish council president, council member and choir member. Survived by Sharon, his wife of 67 years and his children: Susan Arida (Robert) Boston; David (Anne) St. Paul; Brian (Judy) Coral Springs, FL, John (Susan) Rodgers, MN, Lisa Blegen (Jim) Hinckley, MN., 16 grandchildren and 16 great-children. He is also survived by his brothers, Nick (Vivian) and George (Margot). Doran was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna (Jadinak) Ketz, a sister Phylis Mancuso, and a great grandson Trevor Thomas Ketz. Corky was an engaging thoughtful person. His sense of humor and interest in others will always be remembered. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Holy Trinity Orthodox church in Clayton. A visitation will be held from 3 to 6 pm on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the church, as well as for the hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will take place at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Cemetery.
