Doris Bernice Torgerson was born at home on December 4, 1926 in Beaver Township of Polk County, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Otto and Ethel (Gamache) Jeska. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school, then went to Turtle Lake where she graduated from high school in 1944. On June 19, 1944 she was united in marriage to Clarence John Torgerson and to this union five children were born. For a short time after their marriage they lived in Chicago where Doris worked for Sears. They returned to Range and eventually moved to their farm in Beaver Township where she has resided since. She was a lifetime member of the Elim Lutheran Church in Range and active in all the church activities. She also belonged to the Range Homemakers. She was in a 500 card club with friends for many years. For hobbies she enjoyed gardening, especially growing roses, sewing, quilting and baking. She was well known for her pies and angel food cake. When visitors stopped by they were always treated to some homemade goodies. She and Clarence had a home in Florida where they enjoyed spending winters. After his death in 2006 she remained on the farm. Doris passed away at the Cumberland Hospital on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the age of 89 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence, sons Barry and David, brothers Arnold Jeska and Howard "Butch" Sturm. Surviving family members include her children: Russell (Julie) Torgerson, Renee (Vern) Marsh, and Gail Torgerson. She also leaves eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elim Lutheran Church in Range. There will be visitation at the Williamson-White Funeral Home on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. and for the hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Elim Cemetery.
