Dorothy Stindle was born at home on the family farm in East Lincoln, Polk County, Wisconsin on February 8, 1916. She was the daughter of Louis Paul and Cassie Virginia (Abbott) Stindle. She attended country school and then later Amery High School. After graduation she took a job in the twin cities. During World War II she served in the United States Coast Guard being discharged in May of 1946. She worked as a secretary in New York, California, and Florida before returning to St. Paul where she worked at American Hoist and Derrick Co. After retiring, she spent her later years traveling with her sisters all over the world. Dorothy liked to golf, play cards, cribbage, scrabble and do crossword puzzles. In her later years she lived at Oak Brook Apartments in Amery and moved to Willow Ridge Health Care Center in June of this year. Dorothy died at the Amery Regional Medical Center on November 5, 2009 at the age of 93 years. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Florence McKee and a niece Tracy Eggert. Left to mourn are her brother Howard Louis Stindle and his wife Irene of Amery, and sister Beverly Irene Wright and her husband Kenneth of Reeve. She also leaves many nieces and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held on Saturday November 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery with Pastor Barry Schaefer officiating. Her cremains were buried on her parents lot at the Amery Cemetery. The Williamson-White Funeral Home and Cremation Service assisted the family.
