In 1951 with the birth of their first child, they moved to Amery, Wisconsin where Donn was helping his ailing father with his insurance agency. Dorothy became a stay at home mom and was active in the lives of their 3 children, Jo Ann, Les, and Robin. After the children were grown and left home, Donn and Dorothy spent the next 31 winters in Harlingen, Texas enjoying the warm weather as "winter" Texans. In 1990 Donn and Dorothy moved their principal residence from Amery to Hudson to be closer to family. In addition to being a beloved mother, Dorothy was an accomplished watercolor artist, Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School teacher, Bible Camp counselor, Eastern Star member, and contract bridge Life Master.
