Dwight Brohmer was born September 19, 1910 to Gustav "Adolph" and Mabel (Bingham) Brohmer. The same year the family moved to Polk County from Monroe County, Wisconsin to the farm where Dwight lived until he retired. There were four children born into the Brohmer family: Paul, Dwight, Richard and Mary. Adolph`s parents came to the USA via NYC from Prussia in 1873 and their citizen papers renounced allegiance to William, king of Prussia. Dwight attended East Lincoln church and was very active as a Sunday School teacher and he also brought neighbor children to church. He later became a member of 1st Baptist church. Dwight was always very loving and respectful of his parents and God and was a hard working farmer. He maintained a great sense of humor all his life and even when you visited him right up to the end he would joke and tell stories or finish the story for you. Dwight remembers his Grandfather Bingham playing on the floor with the grandchildren and Dwight had many pictures in his home of Grandpa Bingham. He told of Grandpa Bingham being captured during the Civil War and was feed only Cornbread and water and as a result he got rickets. Dwight was shorter than his younger brother Richard and one day he took off on the tractor while his younger brother Richard was talking to a visitor. The visitor then said hey the kid just took off on the tractor and Richard laughed and said I think the Kid can handle it….from that time on he was known as the Brohmer kid or the kid. The Brohmer farm and the Bodenner farm were close by and so Frank and Dwight were always working together and had chats on the phone. When Dwight was sick or needed to leave Frank would do his chores and when Frank`s barn burned Dwight allowed Frank to milk his cows in his barn which was not easy, but that is what Dwight did. Brohmers lived through the great depression and so Dwight learned to work hard and save money so they would never be threatened to lose the farm again. Dwight never married but worked hard and stayed home on the family farm and did not go to the University Madison with his friend Lawrence Seekins. Dwight lived a long life and turned 104 years old in September. He passed away at Comforts of Home in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin on Tuesday, December 23, 2014. He will be greatly missed by friends and relatives. He leaves behind to mourn many nephews and nieces and close friends to mourn his loss.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 29 at 1:30 p.m. at the East Lincoln Alliance Church in rural Amery. Visitation will be the hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the East Lincoln Cemetery.
