Edna Cordelia Waalen was born in Alden Township, Polk County, Wisconsin on November 16, 1914 the daughter of Isaac and Elina Aune. She was Baptized and Confirmed at the Deronda Lutheran Church and graduated from Amery High School in 1933. She went on to attend Calhoun Secretarial School in Minneapolis, Minnesota and worked at Retail Credit Company in Minneapolis for five years. After returning to Amery she was employed by Attorneys Cwayna, Notvitzke, Byrnes and Gust as a legal secretary for 28 years. On April 21, 1940 she was united in marriage to Elroy Waalen at her parent's home in Alden Township. To this union two children were born, son Terry and daughter Joy Lee Ann who died in infancy. She was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church for over 50 years having been Working Group Chairman and Co-Chairman of Our Saviors quilting group for many years. Edna had a fall at her home in Amery and moved to Willow Ridge Healthcare in Amery this past January. She died at Willow Ridge on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the age of 98 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elroy, her parents, infant daughter Joy Le Ann, brother Alfred Aune, and sister Lenora Bottolfson. She is survived by her son Terry (Cathy) Waalen of Amery, grandson Joey (Lisa) Waalen of Roberts, WI, grandson Jeff Waalen of Roberts, WI, step-granddaughter Heather (Brian) Rivard of Somerset, step grandson Sean (Lynda) Murray of Tonopah, AZ, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Amery. There will be a time of visitation for the hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at the Little Falls Cemetery.
