Obituary

Eleanore Strohbeen Buhr, age 88, of Amery, was born on August 23, 1923 to Martin and Emma (Ross) Johnson. Ellie's father was so excited for her arrival that when he went to get the midwife in his Model T, he left ruts from the tires in the front yard. Ellie attended elementary school at Apple River Park and graduated from Amery High School in 1941. During the war, Ellie worked in the factory at Doughboy. She also worked as a waitress and cashier for Mr. Dahler of Amery. Ellie went on to work for Henry Lund at the Amery Super Value. Ellie will be remembered for her friendly interactions with all customers. Ellie worked at Super Value for 37 years and loved every minute of it! Ellie also worked for Don and Gussie Fenneran in their jewelry store, and she loved that job as well. In 1947, Ellie married Ray Strohbeen. They operated a mink ranch and farmed, working hard each day and often into the night. In 1990, Ellie married Nestor Buhr. Together Ellie and Nestor enjoyed traveling, playing cards, going to the casinos and spending time with family and friends. Ellie loved to sew, cook, bake, crochet and play cards. Ellie most recently enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society. Ellie died on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 following a dignified and gracious fight with cancer. Her final days were filled with a continuous stream of friends and family members stopping by to tell Ellie just how much she was loved. These visits were a gift to both Ellie and her loved ones. Ellie's funeral service was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amery, WI on Saturday, July 21, 2012. A visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Williamson-White Funeral Home as well as for the hour prior to the service at the church. A private family interment will be held. Ellie entered Heaven just in time to join Nestor in celebrating what would have been his 87th birthday. Ellie was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Emma; husbands, Raymond and Nestor, and siblings, Martin and June. Left to cherish wonderful memories of Ellie are her children, JoAnne Johnson (Larry), Karen Kraszewski (Mallcom), Raymond Strohbeen (Cindy), Jody Buhr (Melissa), Judi Kahoun (Steve), Trini Marcouiller (Dan), and Bill Buhr (Gina). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Greg, Craig, Tucker, Punche, Ryan, Mike, Ralph, Jolee, Ashley, Cory, Kati, Sara, Emma, Nicole, Megan, Derek, Joe, Emily, Maggie, William, and Hannah and great grandchildren Ava, Tristan, Tucker, Delaney, Matthew, and Samantha who will miss Ellie as well. Ellie also leaves behind her siblings, Virgil (Arlene), Viola, Ansel and Alan (Marlys) as well as many other loving family members and friends.
