Elsie Hansen passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Willow Ridge Healthcare in Amery. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at East Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Amery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. and for the hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the East Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.


Elsie Hansen was born at home in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 5, 1911 the daughter of Herman and Lena Erickson. She was baptized in Hudson, Wisconsin and later confirmed at East Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Amery. They moved to New Richmond, Wisconsin where Elsie attended first grade. Her family moved to Deer Park, Wisconsin where she attended school until the fifth grade. They moved to Wagon Landing and she finished her primary education there. She attended high school in New Richmond, living with family friends during the school week. Her family moved to New Richmond for her final three years of high school. On June 28, 1931 she was united in marriage to Merton Johannes Hansen and they made their home in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1938 they moved to Deer Park, Wisconsin where they farmed until retiring in 1969. In retirement they moved to Seattle, Washington. Merton preceded her in death in 1990. Elsie continued living in Seattle until 1999 when she moved back to Amery, Wisconsin and lived at Evergreen Village. Elsie was a great cook and she loved to entertain family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, sometimes out of necessity and sometimes just for enjoyment. No matter where she lived her church was always important to her and she took an active part. As the years passed family was always important and she was interested in what each family member was doing and relished each new arrival when they were born. She moved
to Willow Ridge Healthcare in October of 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Merton, brother Leonard Left to celebrate her life are her sons: Merton Hansen, Charles Hansen and Roger Hansen; daughters: Elaine Solum and Linda Hanna; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.
