Eugene A. Lodermeier was born on September 17, 1924 in Urbank, Minnesota the son of Martin and Christine (Hagemann) Lodermeier. He grew up in rural Amery and as a young man worked on the family farm. He also did farm work for neighboring farmers. He worked at a CCC camp for a period of time as well. He served in the United States Army during World War II Being Discharged in February of 1946. He was married to Beatrice Mingo and together they raised 10 children. They lived in Bloomington, Minnesota. He spent much of his life as a truck driver working for Swift first and then for LCL until he retired. After Beatrice died he moved to South St. Paul. In 1984 he married Hazel Dolney. They lived in South St. Paul until 1985 when they moved to Amery. In 2001 they moved to Balsam Lake, Wisconsin. He kept active throughout his life. He loved dancing and also played the accordion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He was a volunteer delivering meals for Meals on Wheels. Eugene was also a life member of the VFW. Not being one to just sit around he also did bicycle repair and drove school bus during his retirement. He died on Monday, April 27, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis. He was 90 years old.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beatrice, daughter Judy and brothers Jerome, Ed, Al, Leonard and Norbert. Surviving family members include his wife Hazel; children: Colleen Scanlon (Larry), Anne Munroe (Mitchell), David Lodermeier (Beverly), Rita Hamman (Gregory), William Lodermeier (Patricia), Lenore Zeimet (Terry), Mary Thuerkoff (Mitchell), Gregory Lodermeier and Neil Lodermeier (Heidi); brothers: LeRoy Lodermeier (Eileen) and Victor Lodermeier; sisters: Lorraine Utecht and Clarice Lodermeier; 18 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.


Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be for the hour prior to the service at the church. Military Honors will be held at the church as well. Interment will be at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
