Evelyn Inez Christenson was born on March 8, 1927 at home in Garfield Township, one of nine children born to Albert and Ida (Peterson) Mickelson. She grew up in Garfield and attended Oak Grove School. She was Baptized and Confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. On December 6, 1947 she was united in marriage to Irvin "Buddy" Christenson and together they had two sons, Gary and Larry. They started dairy farming with 12 cows, and eventually moved to the Deronda location that became known as the Chris Brook Farms. For 15 years Evelyn worked for Fabri-tek in Amery. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and active with its ladies aide. She also taught Sunday school and served on the church council. After Irvin's death she remained on the farm and still had her gardens and canned much of the produce she grew. Anytime someone came to visit they never went home hungry. Fresh homemade goodies were always served. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed taking the grandkids shopping whenever she was able. Evelyn passed away at the Amery Hospital on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the age of 91.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Irvin, sisters: Cecelia Beadle, Margaret Holmson, Ida Plihal and Lorraine Anderson; brothers Irvin Mickelson and Art Mickelson. She is survived by her sons: Gary (Barb) Christenson of Amery, WI and Larry (Valerie) Christenson of Kansas City, KS; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; sisters: Helen (Kerwin) Erickson of Amery, WI and Hazel Johnson of Fridley, MN as well as other relatives and friends.
