Frank G. Skidmore's Obituary
Frank Grant Skidmore, 84, Rice Lake, died June 16, 2013 at Thomas Landing with his wife of nearly 54 years at his side.
Frank was born August 20, 1928 in Frederic to Joe and Nellie (Grant) Skidmore. He grew up on the family farm near Coomer with his three sisters. He graduated from Balsam Lake High School in 1946 and served in the US Navy from 1950-54. He was a state trooper when he married the love of his life, Charlotte Clark Rogers, on July 15, 1959. Then he bought his own rig and drove semi for Midwest Coast until he and Charlotte took over sole ownership of The Lagoon on Deer Lake.
Frank was never one to sit still, so following his retirement; he first drove school bus and then made deliveries for the Balsam Lake pharmacy, quitting only when two strokes in 2009 make it impossible for him to continue.
Frank loved his large extended family and enjoyed traveling with them, working on any project that needed another pair of hands, hunting, fishing and camping, and joining in the many family celebrations. He had a good sense of humor and loved to tease, always in a good-hearted way. Frank was also devoted to his church and volunteered many hours in St. Patrick's In Centuria and later at Our Lady of the Lakes in Balsam Lake, and St. Joseph's in Amery, where he was a regular usher and Eucharistic minister. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Barbara Anderson and Bonnie DeLawyer. He is survived by his wife Charlotte and son Alexander Grant of Minneapolis, three grandchildren, Peter (Crystal) Skidmore and Andrew Skidmore of Rice Lake, and Cheryl Skidmore of Atlanta, and two great-grandsons, Nicholas and Maximus Skidmore of Rice Lake, his sister, Beverly Cooper of Ada, Michigan and many other relatives and friends.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amery. Burial will be at the Long Lake Cemetery in rural Balsam Lake. There will be visitation at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and for the hour prior to the service at the church.
