Freda Marie Myhrwold, 68, of St. Anthony, MN passed away suddenly, but peacefully, March 15th, 2026 while traveling in Ireland. Freda's name refers to "Peace" and that truly described what she pursued in life using her music and smile and loving spirit.
Freda was born to Arvid and Adeline Myhrwold on November 1, 1957, in a small prairie hospital in Philip, South Dakota. Throughout her life she would be known for her abundant joy, patient love and kindness, and a sincerity that flowed through her singing and welcoming manners. Freda grew up in Greenwood, WI and Downsville, WI and graduated from Menomonie High School in Wisconsin. She and her two older sisters frequently harmonized while doing dishes together, and that musical art accompanied her throughout her life. She attended Waldorf Junior College in Forest City, Iowa and eventually earned her BA degree in Religion and Spanish language from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. After college she pursued a musical ministry by joining the Lutheran Youth Encounter (LYE) and toured with several national and international Kindred outreach teams, principally focusing on Central and South America.
In 1983 she was commissioned into the ministry and spent three years as 'House Mom' for missionary kids in Cuenca, Ecuador. Her college studies, LYE travels, and 3 years of immersion in Ecuadorian society gave her fluent language skills that served her frequently in her personal and professional life. Her exposure to performance and cultural interactions gave her leadership and communication skills that continued to develop in her work at Lake Wapogasset Bible Camp, Group Health (later HealthPartners) and in her ministry of God's Love at Nativity Lutheran Church in St. Anthony, Minnesota where Freda was Liturgist, Lead Singer and frequent wedding and funeral soloist for 40 years.
In 2006 Freda was honored with HealthPartner's Presidential Award while working as an Account Executive in Sales, and as Special Projects Manager. In 2019 she retired in order to provide home care for her mother. In addition to her experiences in Central and South America, Freda has traveled to Japan, Norway, Kenya, Australia, Costa Rica, Germany, the Czech Republic, Bangladesh, Spain and finally Ireland.
Freda is survived by her mother, Adeline Myhrwold (age 96), sisters and brothers Deb (Wayne) Bakke, Peter Myhrwold, Kris (Don) Meyer, Jim (Tammy) Myhrwold, nephews and nieces Carl Bakke, Jarel (Kirsten) Bakke, EmMee (Charlie) Card, Maria Meyer, Andy (Lily) Meyer, Kaleb (Grace) Myhrwold, Meleah Myhrwold and her special little love, a papillon dog named Winston.
A Celebration of Freda Myhrwold's life will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday April 18, 2026 at Nativity Lutheran Church in St. Anthony, MN. Interment will follow at a later date at the Deronda Cemetery in Deronda, Wisconsin.
