Frederick "Fritz" Schillinger died at his home in rural Clayton on Tuesday May 10, 2011. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amery. There will be a visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Northern Wisconsin Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Spooner, Wisconsin.
Frederick George Schillinger was born on April 4, 1945 in Baldwin, Wisconsin the son of Clarence and Dorothy (Colburn) Schillinger. He grew up in Glenwood City, Wisconsin. He attended Glenwood City High School where he was active in athletics. He graduated from Glenwood City High School and took a job with AT&T, but was drafted a short time later. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam. Upon returning home from the service he resumed his job with AT&T. He served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the CWA Union. On May 24, 1968 he was united in marriage to Sylvia Jean Lechner and together they had two sons. They made their home in White Bear Lake, Minnesota and he retired from AT&T in 1995. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his real love was playing ball. He played fast pitch and later slow pitch softball for many years. In 1999 they moved to Clayton, Wisconsin where he continued his enjoyment of the outdoors. He has battled cancer, but with the help of family and hospice care was able to remain at home until his death on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the age of 66 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James and an infant sister. Surviving family include his wife Sylvia; sons: Chad (Kristi) and Troy (Tanya); three grandchildren Kami, Zander and Zoe. He also leaves three brothers: Donald (Betty), Marshall (Nancy) and Greg (Maurice) as well as other relatives and friends.
