Obituary

Genevieve Huset age 103, of Amery, Wisconsin formerly of Prairie Farm and Chetek passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Golden Age Manor in Amery.

She was born on October 9, 1912 to Christian and Alice (Goodison) Omtvedt in Sand Creek. She grew up on a farm near Sand Creek along with her four brothers, Tom, twin brothers, Andrew, Lyle and Clifford. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Our Saviors Lutheran Church (now Good Hope Lutheran Church) near Sand Creek. She received her early education at Good Luck Rural schools and graduated from Colfax High School in 1931. She attended Eau Claire's teacher college and taught in Dunn County schools until her marriage to Harland Huset of Dallas on September 2, 1936 she later received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Education graduating Cum Laude from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She and Harland purchased a farm near Prairie Farm in 1943. Genevieve taught school at Dallas, Barron, Vance Creek and Prairie Farm where she taught first grade for 16 years. She loved teaching and working with children. In 1973 she received an award for outstanding elementary teacher of the year. Genevieve was active in the Church and the community in many ways holding positions in Sunday school, Luther league, Vacation Bible School, superintendent of Sunday school and teaching summer school at the Prairie Farm public school. She enjoyed living on the farm with Harland and her two daughters, Sharon and Lynn. She also loved gardening, canning, serving, reading and taking part in neighborhood activities. In 1975 she retired after 25 years of teaching. They then sold their farm and moved to Chetek where they built a home near the lake and enjoyed making new friends, traveling and wintering in Florida and Arizona. In 1996 they moved to Maple craft apartments. Harland passed away on September 3, 2006. Genevieve then moved to Amery to be near her daughter, Sharon (Fran) Hawksford and family. She has enjoyed living at Evergreen Village and spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and the Abigail Circle.

Genevieve is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Fran) Hawksford; 4 grandchildren, Sheri (Paul) Kujak, Lori (Rick) Peper, Tom (Mary) Hawksford, Jim (Alexandra) Hawksford; 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harland; infant twin sons, Dennis and Donald; a daughter, Lynn; her brothers and one infant grandson.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Pastor Keith Ruehlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 AM on Thursday at the Church prior to the service. Interment will be at the Sunset Cemetery in Prairie Farm, Wisconsin.
