Genevieve Lillian Sjobeck was born July 31, 1921, in La Jolla, California, the second daughter of William and Lillian (Kluge) Senn. She grew up and attended grade school in Pacific Beach, and graduated from La Jolla High School in 1940.
When Pearl Harbor was bombed on December 7, 1941, work became plentiful, and she was hired four days later in San Diego in the employment office of Consolidated Aircraft Corporation.
In June of 1943, Gen and a group of "office girls" from Consolidated attended a servicemen's dance at Hotel Del Coronado. It was at this dance that she met US Marine Lester Sjobeck of Amery, Wisconsin. When World War II ended and he returned from the Pacific theater to San Diego, they were married on May 12, 1946.
Lester and Gen moved to Amery later that same year, and took over his family's business, Sjobeck's Men's Store. Two daughters were born, Susan and Joanne. Gen worked with Les for many years at their store, doing nearly all the tailoring and alterations.
Gen was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church, Amery. She was a talented seamstress, and loved sewing, needlework, baking, and traveling.
She died on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Willow Ridge Healthcare in Amery . She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lester, and half sister Grace Schroff. She is survived by daughters Susan (Arthur) Salani of Brookfield, Wi; Joanne (Burlington "Sandy") Fretwell of Amery; grandchildren Julie (Daniel) Kearney, Jeffrey Fretwell, and Christopher Salani; great grandsons Alexander and Andrew Kearney, and sister Virginia Skinner of San Diego, California.

Funeral services will be at First Lutheran Church, Amery, on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Amery Cemetery.
