Harold "Bud" Earl Porter was born at home on the family farm in rural Amery on January 2, 1921 one of three children born to Earl and Ellen (Olson) Porter. He grew up in rural Amery and attended the Flannigan School in rural Amery. He attended high school in Amery and graduated in 1939. He farmed with his father and eventually took over the operation of the family farm. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Cowley on April 7, 1962 and together they raised two children. When time allowed Bud enjoyed fishing, even making a few trips to Canada to enjoy the sport. He was a long time member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Amery. He served on the Amery Equity Board for many years, part of that time as president. One thing that was very important to Bud was to be a good steward of the land. He took good care of his land and his animals. He sold his milk herd in 1980 and continued cropping the land, selling the farm in 1998. As Spring rolled around each year he enjoyed cooking maple syrup. In 2005 he and Mary Lou moved to Clear Lake. He enjoyed playing cards, especially the game "13". This past April Bud moved to Willow Ridge Healthcare in Amery where he passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the age of 92 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving family members include his wife of 51 years, Mary Lou; children: Sarah (Ralph) Petty and David (Jackie) Porter; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. He also leaves two sisters: Evelyn Johanson and Marion Christensen as well as other relatives and friends.


Memorial services will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. There will be a time of visitation for the hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Amery Cemetery.
