Hazel Marie Nelson was born on April 1, 1948 in Ada, Minnesota the daughter of John and Ardelle (Peterson) Loughlin. She spent her high school years in Glenwood City, Wisconsin where she graduated from high school. She was united in marriage at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Amery to Lorenz "Cookie" Nelson and to this union two children were born. They made their home in rural Amery. She was a very active volunteer with the Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society. She also spent many volunteer hours working in Ruby's Kitchen. She has been a bowler at Club 53 for many years. Hazel enjoyed making and decorating cakes. She has made many wedding cakes over the years. She has always enjoyed riding motorcycle, but at age 50 took the plunge and purchased her own bike which was her pride and joy. She thoroughly enjoyed all the trips they were able to make on their bikes. Hazel worked as the purchasing agent and in customer service for AmTech in Amery. She was rushed to the Amery Regional Medical Center in Amery where she died on Friday September 23, 2011 at the age of 63 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law Lorenz Nelson. Left to mourn are her husband Lorenz "Cookie" Nelson II; daughter Kari (Thomas) White; son: Lorenz "Bear" Nelson III; grandchildren Katelyn and Matthew White; brothers: Irv (Lisa) Loughlin, Bill (Sue) Loughlin, John (Marie) Loughlin, Myron (Mary) Loughlin; mother-in-law Marjorie Nelson as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Deronda Lutheran Church. There will be visitation at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and for the hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Deronda Cemetery.
