Herbert Ralph Booe was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 22, 1934, the son of Malcolm and Barbara Stanchus Booe. His early years were spent in Chicago. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Illinois. Herb served in the United States Army and after being discharged, he attended Northwestern University, graduating with a degree in accounting.

In 1958 Herb was united in marriage with Margaret Gilmore. Together they had three children. They continued living in Chicago until Herb was transferred to Minnesota with 3M. Over the years Herb was an accountant at several different businesses and owned a rental equipment company and a concrete block plant when he lived in Owatonna and Faribault.

Herb later moved to the Twin Cities where he met Janet Bardy (neé Borgen). They were married on May 24, 1987. They continued living in St. Paul until Herb retired in 2000. In retirement, Herb and Janet made their home on Bear Trap Lake near Amery, Wisconsin. Herb was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Lion's Club and a men's book club, where he enjoyed the social time together. He was also active as a volunteer at the Arnell Humane Society, Amery Food Pantry, the Friends of the Library and Northern Waters Literacy.

Herb died at his home in rural Amery on Monday evening, April 6, 2015 at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Allen and his first wife, Margaret. Left to mourn are his wife Janet; daughters Janet (David) Small and Joan Busch; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; brother Richard (Sarah) Booe; sister Barbara Patun; his Aunt Grace and Uncle John Dusek; four step children; six step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren as well as many nephews, nieces and other friends and relatives.



Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Amery. There will be a visitation for the hour prior to the service at the church. Donations to the Arnell Humane Society in Herb's honor are welcomed.
