Hope Phyllis Gorres was born on April 20, 1928 at her family home in Amery, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Samuel M. and Ruth (Ogden) Lien. She grew up in Amery and attended Amery High School graduating with the class of 1945. After graduation Hope took a job at the Variety Store in Amery. On June 1, 1946 she was married to Earl Gorres. They made their home on a farm in rural Amery where they raised six boys. Hope enjoyed cross stitch, crocheting and knitting. She was active in the community playing on the women's golf league, bowling league, and bridge club. She was also an active member of the Congregational Church and the Eastern Star. Hope loved to travel and she and Earl spent many winters traveling south, but continued living in Amery the rest of the year. In 2009, due to health issues Hope moved to Golden Age Manor in Amery, where she passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the age of 83 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Lynn; brothers, Sam and Jack Lien and sisters, Carmen Lien, Margeurite Michna and Joyce Anderson. Hope is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Earl; sons, Larry (Jane), Lee (Beverly), Michael (Cathy), Tim (Paula) and Glen (Kim); 15 grandchildren, Michelle Wieland, Ben Gorres, Greg Gorres, Justin Gorres, Beau Gorres, Garrett Gorres, Dylan Gorres, Naomi Werle, Samantha Mortensen, Anna Ellefson, Luke Gorres, Claire Brandenburg, Nicholas Gorres, Chase Gorres and Mitchell Gorres; two step grandchildren, Sherry Hollister and Doug Mueller; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Kermit (Iris) Lien; sisters, Marian Finnan and Gloria Bille as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Congregational Church in Amery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Amery Cemetery.
