John Hoyt Epley, age 65 of Amery, Wisconsin died on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN from complications following a stroke. John was born in New Richmond, WI on October 24, 1946. He grew up in Hudson, WI and moved with his family to Amery when he was 16. As a young boy, he was always on the go and still was on the day he had his stroke. A man of many talents, John served in the US Navy, was an accomplished salesman, airline pilot, machinist, heavy equipment operator and craftsman. He was instrumental in building the Amery Municipal Airport. He built and expertly flew remote control model airplanes while mentoring others interested in the hobby, and formed a local club so all could gain experience and show off their skills. He loved to golf, ride his Harley, go fishing and watch the Packers. In 2000 John and his daughter Maranda were united. John adapted to the role of fatherhood with ease. Upon meeting they knew they were two of a kind. Just a few years after meeting, he was blessed with the birth of his grandsons, Seth and Luke. John and his fiancé, Rhonda Gullickson, who have been together for 5 ½ years, enjoyed life every day riding Harleys, camping, traveling and just being together. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Myrtle. John is survived by sisters, Judy (Bob) Nelson, Joanne (Johnny) Johnson; daughter, Maranda Goldsmith; grandchildren, Seth and Luke; fiancé, Rhonda Gullickson and her children, Brian (Kristin) Gullickson and Melissa (John) Barthman, and grandchildren, Cameron, Jordan, Collin, Makaylin, Tylor, Helen, and Charlie. John easily made friends, was an eternal optimist and lived life to the fullest. He touched the hearts of everyone he met and always lent a helping hand. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery as well as one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at the Amery cemetery.
