Obituary

John L. Linder, age 91, died at the Amery Regional Medical Center on Thursday, March 8, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Deronda Lutheran Church in rural Amery. There will be a visitation time for the hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Amery Cemetery.


John L. Linder was born on May 26, 1920 in Amery, Wisconsin. He was one of six children born to Axel and Frances (Anderson) Linder. He grew up in Amery and graduated from the Amery High School. He entered the United States Air Force where he served both during World War II and the Korean War. After being discharged he returned home and was united in marriage to Verna Siltberg. They lived in Columbia Heights and John was a machinist for Globe Tool for many years. He had a cabin near Yellow Lake where they enjoyed spending time and he always enjoyed fishing when he could. When he retired he moved to Deronda, Wisconsin. After Verna's death he moved back to the cities where he met and later married June Mewhorter. John was a life member of the VFW. He was also a very good cook and loved having friends and family over so he could grill for them. June also preceded him in death and John eventually moved to a nursing home in Stillwater. He later came to live at River Bend assisted living in Amery. John died at the Amery Regional Medical Center on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the age of 91 years.
His parents, wife Verna, second wife June, sisters: Nella Melody, Norma Higgins and Gloria Trudeau and brother Ronald Linder all preceded him in death. Left to mourn are his sister Betty Jansen of Amery; sister-in-law Shirley Linder and special friend Yvonne Johnson as well as other relatives and friends.
