John Russell Magnuson was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on October 21, 1944 the son of Russell and Helen (Hanna) Magnuson. He grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois. When John was a senior in high school he suffered a severe injury. Through hard work and the support of family and friends he was able to recover even though the odds were against him. He graduated from Maine Township High School in Park Ridge, IL and then went on to audit some classes at North Park College in Chicago. He worked as a security guard for Marshall Fields and also as a personal attendant working at a nursing home, where he was a favorite with the residents. He has lived in various locations with his mother over his lifetime, including Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. They came to Amery in 2003 and John lived at the high rise. John was well liked by everyone who knew him. John died at Regions Hospital on Sunday evening July 25, 2010 at the age of 65 years.
John was preceded in death by his father. Left to mourn are his mother Helen Magnuson of Amery and several cousins and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Amery on Wednesday July 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Keith Ruehlow officiating. Organist will be Helen Osborn. His cremains will be interred at East Immanuel Cemetery in rural Amery. Memorial donations may be made to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Amery.
