Obituary

John Robert Peterson was born on April 21, 1955 in Amery, Wisconsin the son of Lyle and Margaret (Johnson) Peterson. He was Baptized at West Clayton Covenant Church and later Confirmed at the United Covenant Church in Clear Lake. John attended school in Amery and graduated from Amery High School in 1973. John was diagnosed with diabetes when he was 18 years old. When he was able he worked at Amery Farmers Union, the Hoyer Well Company and also farmed for a living. John was united in marriage to Mary Hoyer on March 29, 1986 at the United Covenant Church and to this union two children were born. John became disabled due to his diabetes and moved home to live with his parents. In 1993 he was blessed with a kidney transplant that helped with his quality of life. He loved to read books, play computer games and cards even with the loss of vision in one eye. He loved all sports and enjoyed watching them. He was always playful and teasing with his family. John was a longtime faithful member of the United Covenant Church and participated in choir, bible studies, and men's prayer breakfast. Over the years John struggled with complications with his diabetes. He was taken to Region's Hospital where he died on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the age of 61.
John was preceded in death by his father Lyle and brother LeRoy, grandparents: James and Mildred Johnson and Leonard and Olga Peterson. Surviving family members include his mother Margaret Peterson; son Justin (Danielle) Peterson, daughter Gina (Julian) Hannack; grandchildren: Izabella, Izaac, Camryn and Cylas; brothers: Michael (Donna) Peterson, Bill (Melinda) Peterson, Lyle "Tom" (Becky) Peterson; sister Susan (Aaron) Spurrell; sister-in-law Marilyn Peterson; aunts Adeline Myhrwold and Barbara Johnson; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends as well as his wonderful church family.


Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from the United Covenant Church in Clear Lake. There will be visitation at the Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery on Wednesday, February 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. and for the hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Amery Cemetery in Amery, Wisconsin.
