Larry Gene Benck was born in Grenada, Minnesota the son of Walt and Evelyn Benck. He grew up in Grenada and after graduation he entered the United States Army. He served from September of 1958 until August of 1960. After returning home he was united in marriage to Karen Larson and together they had seven children. They made their home near Ellsworth, Wisconsin where they operated a dairy farm for many years. He was a member of the Holstein Breeders Association. They also raised prize chickens on the farm and took them to competitions winning many awards over the years. He was married to Charlotte and they made their home in Menomonie, Wisconsin. Larry enjoyed going to area dances. He also liked fishing and hiking in the great outdoors. He was married to Hazel Trandum and they lived in Menomonie, Wisconsin. This past year Larry moved to Deer Park, Wisconsin. He was hospitalized with medical complications and was moved to Golden Age Manor where he passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the age of 74 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Karen and an infant son Larry Lee. Surviving family members include his children: Rick (Shari) Benck, Dave (Karen) Benck, John (Winona) Benck, Jean Benck, Ron Benck and Gary (Jackie) Benck; brother Wayne (Verlene) Benck; sisters: Sharon (Dale) Rasmussen and Janet (Eldon) Tjege; Hazel Trandum; 15 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. from Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Amery. Visitation will be the hour before the services at the church. Burial will be at the Amery Cemetery.
