Larry Dean Voelker was born on January 22, 1955 in Barron, WI the son of Jack and Maxine (Rae) Voelker. He graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1973. He went on to attend DeVry Institute of Electronics in Chicago graduating in 1976 and he pursued a career in electronics and mechanical repair work. Larry was a thoughtful, dedicated man devoted to his family. He enjoyed keeping busy around his home such as cutting wood or completing home improvement projects; remodeling, working in his "shop", or spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed his salt water and fresh water aquariums. Larry was extremely talented and capable in repairing electrical and mechanical machinery of all types. A favorite pass time was having a beer with his friends at the Alibi and watching the Packers. He was also a member of the Amery gun club for many years, and also served as treasurer. Larry enjoyed the outdoors and the hunting, fishing, four wheeling, and the camping it offered. He recently retired after serving 25 years at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis as a Bio Medical Technician, and also spent time working at the Amery Hospital. During his lifetime he worked on amusement electronics with Tom Oshaunisee; he worked at Doughboy Industries in New Richmond, WI and he also worked with his father Jack Voelker in the maintenance department at Jerome Foods (Jennie O) in Barron, WI. He donated personal time and professional skills while on a 2011 mission trip to Haiti assisting doctors from Minnesota Medical Professionals. Larry also served as Polk County Supervisor from 2008 to 2010, a position he was very proud to have. Larry died from cancer at his home on Wednesday March 5th, 2014 at the age of 59 years.
Larry Voelker is survived by his loving wife Kelly Voelker (McCarty) and his dear son Jason Voelker, both of Amery. He is also fondly remembered by his sister Cindy (Ronnie) Campbell of Side Lake, MN, brother David (Nancy) Voelker of Woodstock, IL, and sister Julie Lulich (Brad Stoeklen) of Rice Lake. Also loved by nieces and nephews: Chris Campbell, Heidi (Jerry) LaBrie, Kristin Lulich, and John Lulich. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Rae Voelker and by a nephew Ryan Campbell.



Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. from the Congregational Church in Amery. There will be a visitation time for the hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Balsam Lutheran Cemetery at a later time.
