Leonard A. Stepan (Stephan) was born on June 9, 1924 in Willow River, MN. He died at the age of 87 on February 13, 2012 at the Amery Regional Medical Center with his family at his side. He married Marcella Busse on May 1, 1943 in Askov, MN. At the time of his death, they were married 68 years and nine months. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Marcella; daughters, Karen (Bob) Spangenburg, Faye Mester, Cheryl (LeRoy) Paulson, Valerie (Mike) Engebretson and son, Dale (Cathy) Stepan. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren who all were the light and joy of his life. Len is survived by brothers, Elmer (June) Stepan and Roy Stepan and sister, Angeline Anderson, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Verna (Zywicki) Stepan; brother, Albert Stepan and sisters, Alice Novak and Justina Sharlow, and also sons-in-law Denny Furlong, Bob Mester and Wish Donovan. Len was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Clayton. When Immanuel was hit by a storm which destroyed the steeple, he built a new one in his garage and had it placed where the old steeple had been. He was a proud member of the Army Air Corp., serving the country he loved in the China, India, Burma 'theater" in WWII. Later in life he built a beautiful Veterans Memorial on his property on Lake Magnor. Len was an avid sportsman and loved to hunt and fish. He was an active member of the Richardson Sportsman Club for many years. Len spent his working years in the construction industry, first working for Sheehy Construction Co. in St. Paul. After moving to WI he started Len Stephan Construction Co. in Clayton, WI. He built many buildings in MN and WI, mostly in western WI. One of his favorites was building the Clayton School, where a number of his grandchildren have gone to school. Even now he has five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild in school there. Len lived his life for his family. He worked hard, lived well and loved deeply. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012 from Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Clayton. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery as well as for the hour prior to the service at the church. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Stepan, Mike Engebretson, LeRoy Paulson, Troy Rundquist, Bruce Weiss, Chris Stepan, Ryan Stepan, Ron Furlong and Wade Engebretson. Interment will be at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
