Leone Bernice Wickboldt was born on September 24, 1922 and died on August 9, 2011 at the Baldwin Regional Medical Center at the age of 88. She was born in rural Taylors Falls, Minnesota to John and Hattie Westlund. She moved with her family to West Clayton Township in the early 1930's. Leone attended the West Clayton Country School and completed an eighth grade education. Leone attended West Clayton Mission Church and she and her siblings provided musical accompaniment to those church services. During World War II she worked in St. Paul at a war material production factory. After the war she moved back home in West Clayton Township. On May 19, 1949 she was married to George Thompson Wickboldt. They made their home in Clayton, Wisconsin and she worked as a grocery clerk in Clayton and Turtle Lake for many years, thereafter she became a part of the maintenance department of the Amery Hospital. In 1982 they moved to Woodville, Wisconsin and she retired from the hospital in 1983. Leone enjoyed camping and being outdoors, fishing, playing cards and reading.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Hattie; step-children: Linda Lou Vance and Carma Jean McCully; granddaughter Sharon Vance; husband George; brothers: Silas Westlund, Stanley Westlund, Herbert Westlund, Wallace Westlund, Severt Westlund, Harvey Westlund, Alden Westlund; and sisters: Josie Johnson, Evelyn Larson, Violet Larson and Hazel Olson.
Leone is survived by her stepchildren: Donald (Verlene) Tanner of Haugen, Wisconsin and James (Barbara) Wickboldt of Woodville, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 13, 2011 from Faith Lutheran Church in Clayton, WI. A visitation will be held the hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Clayton Cemetery.
