Loren Joseph Liedl, 58, of Amery, passed away peacefully at Willow Ridge Nursing Home with his family at his side. He lost his long hard fought battle with multiple myeloma that started in 1996.
Loren was born March 14, 1951, to Norman and Hyacinth Liedl in Chippewa Falls, WI. He graduated from McDonald High School in Chippewa Falls and Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire.
On June 9, 1973, in Chippewa Falls, WI, Loren married Joan Proden, his wife of 36 years. They moved to Amery where Loren was employed first by Nova Tran in Clear Lake and later Dynatronix in Amery. Later in his career, he became a real estate agent for Park Realty. Most recently, he started a drinking water testing business that he discontinued due to ill health. Loren also served on the Black Brook Town Board for the past several years and enjoyed being president of the Amery Ambulance Service.
Loren was a very creative person, which often found outlets in his music, woodworking projects, or inventions. No task was too small for him to take on, and he planned every minute detail before starting a project. He especially enjoyed building things like the cabin where he and Joan spent many happy days.
Being an avid sportsman, he relished the challenge of being the best hunter, trapper, or angler that he could be. With his love for the outdoors, he saw a need for an archery range in Amery and founded the Amery Archery Club. He enjoyed being a part of the Amery Jaycees when first coming to Amery where he formed many lasting friendships. He was a very active person, whether bowling with the Amery Fire Department bowling team, golfing, snowmobiling, or camping with friends and family.
Loren and Joan were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Kimberly and Kristen. Loren was always very proud of his family who stood with him every step of the way as he courageously fought his long battle with cancer. Despite many medical setbacks over the years, he never complained or felt bitter with the challenges that he faced. His courage and grace served as a source of inspiration to many.
Loren is preceded in death by an infant brother, Joseph; father, Norman; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Loren is survived by his mother, Hyacinth of Chippewa Falls; wife, Joan of Amery; daughters, Kimberly (Jason Strauss) of Madison, WI and Kristen of London, England; sister, Sharon (James) Tripp of Menominee; Randy (Lois Lillie) of Medina, MN; Wayne (Carmel Sullivan) of Chippewa Falls; Kevin of Madison; Keith of Chippewa Falls; and brother-in-law Stan Proden of Amery.
Loren was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Amery. His mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, January 26, at 11:00 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father John Drummy officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service and from 4-7 Monday evening at the Williamson-White Funeral Home and Cremation Services. His cremains will be interred at the Amery Cemetery.
