Lyle Arland Fox, 84, died Friday, February 26th, 2016 at Regions Hospital in St Paul, MN after complications from pneumonia and chronic heart and kidney disease.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clyde, Virgil and Howard Fox; sisters Norma Moe and Artis Brown, and great granddaughter Hannah Rose Hahn.
Lyle leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Bernice. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on March 3rd, 2016. Lyle also leaves behind his son, David (Bonnie) Fox and daughter, Sue (Tom) McElfresh. Grandchildren Heather (Jeff) Hahn, Nicole (Adam) Majeske, Karolyn (Tony) Worrell and Patrick (Nicky) McElfresh, Jacquie (Chris) Schlosser. As well as 9 loving great grandsons, Nicholas & Zachary Hahn; Sam, Markus, & Sawyer Majeske; Levi & Micah Worrell, and Colin & Connor McEflresh. Also surviving are his brothers: Merlin (Nan) Fox and George Fox; sisters: Barbara Johnson, Betty (Chuck) Hansen and Maryann (Dan) Gathje and other relatives and friends.
Born January 19th, 1932, the son of Stanley and Edna, Lyle was raised on a farm near Kennedy Mill in Amery, WI. He graduated from Amery High School in 1950 and married his high school sweetheart, Bernice in 1951. He was a lifetime resident of Amery, WI.
Lyle & Bernice bought a farm near Volga school in Amery, WI where they milked cows and Lyle drove milk truck for 7 years. Then Lyle worked for NSP as a lineman for 14 years. He returned to dairy farming until they sold the farm in 1979, then went back to hauling milk. Lyle then became the greens keeper at Amery & Glenwood City golf courses. One look at his own lawn, you would know he is great at growing grass. Lyle returned to hauling milk until he was diagnosed with bone cancer. Lyle battled against the odds and beat it. Twice. He was a 25 year cancer survivor. When he was ill, he would always say how grateful it was him and not one of the kids or grandkids. Lyle & Bernice are lifetime members of Balsam Lutheran Church, where Lyle served on the church council for many years.

Lyle preferred to spend much of his day outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood, and working on his tractors or any small engines. Lyle and Bernice enjoyed traveling together, frequenting Branson, Missouri and also visiting Nashville, Florida, and enjoyed an Alaskan cruise.
For Lyle, time with his family and friends was precious. He was an extraordinary Grandpa and Great Grandpa, specializing in bedtime story creation and story and joke telling. To his grandkids, he was a professional singer and whistler. He always wore suspenders and gave the best hugs. His smile was bigger than any other, and his eyes showed kindness and love. Lyle was known for his unique "poof" at the end of his snore. Even into his late 70's, when a great grandson was visiting, Lyle would carefully get down on the floor and play with his boys.
Lyle touched many lives and leaves a legacy of strength, courage, humility, and unconditional love. Although it's hard to say goodbye, we were blessed with many years of love, laughter, and wonderful memories with this very special man we called Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from Balsam Lutheran Church in rural Amery. There will be visitation at the Williamson-White Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and for the hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Fox Cemetery in rural Amery.
