Lyle G. Phillips was born on June 10, 1932 in New Auburn, Wisconsin the son of George and Gladys (Cole) Phillips. He grew up on the family farm in New Auburn and attended school in Chetek where he graduated from high school. On September 22, 1951 he was united in marriage to Shirley V. Johnson and together they had four children. They made their home in Eau Claire, Wisconsin where he began a long career with NSP. He was transferred to Hudson, Wisconsin and spent a few years there before being transferred to Amery, Wisconsin in 1972. He continued with NSP until his retirement. He spent a lot of time traveling with his work and was a problem solver helping the customers of NSP. He was very close with all of his family, which also created a very close knit family within his own family too. Weekend gatherings with family was always important time. In his younger years Lyle enjoyed grouse hunting and fly fishing. He liked jokes and having fun. In retirement he and Shirley spent time between Florida and Arizona, eventually purchasing a place at the Lost Dutchman Park in Apache Junction, AZ where they spent 20 winters. They just recently sold their Arizona home. Lyle and Shirley were very social and enjoyed time with friends, either going to dinner, or staying in to play a board game or cards. Lyle spent a short time at Willow Ridge Healthcare where he died on Wednesday evening, February 3, 2016 at the age of 83 years.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Norma Thompson and Marjorie Marick. Surviving family members include his wife of 64 years, Shirley, children: Anita Jensen, Rob (Pamela) Phillips, Reginald Phillips and Chrystal (Bob) Phillips-Mustain; 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He also leaves a sister Helen Johnson and other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Amery. Visitation will be at the Williamson-White Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. and for the hour prior to the service at the church.
