Obituary

Margaret Helen Nordquist was born June 11, 1917 to Nazera (Kimmell) and Amen Soffa in Waukokee (Fillmore County) Minnesota. She was the youngest of seven children. She attended grade school in Waukokee and attended 9th grade in Preston, Minnesota. She did housework from the age of 12 years old for families in Waukokee, Preston and Harmony for 50 cents a day or $3.00 a week. She married Arvid Gordon Nordquist when she was 18 years old at the German Lutheran Church in Preston on November 30, 1935. Arvid worked for farmers for $5.00 a month and free rent. They moved for a short time to Clayton, Wisconsin where Rose Marie was born in 1936. They moved back to Preston and Jerry was born in 1937; Gordon in 1939; and Phyllis in 1942. They moved back to Clayton where Mary Lou was born in 1951. They moved the family to Range, Wisconsin in 1952 and Douglas was born in 1953 and Cheryl in 1954. Arvid and Margaret ran Nordquist Trucking from 1960 to the time that Margaret turned the business over to her two sons Jerry and Douglas. Margaret loved her home and her yard and her flower gardens. She was an active member of Elim Lutheran Church from the time that they moved to Range. She loved going to the Turtle Lake Casino and stopping off at the Dairy Queen or McDonalds on her way back home. She loved her family and for as long as she was able loved having the holidays at her house and cooking up the big meals. Margaret entered assisted living at St. Andrews Village in Mahtomedi, Minnesota in 2009 and died there on November 15, 2013 at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents, her 6 brothers and sisters, her son Douglas, her son-in-law Charles Anderson. She is survived by 6 children: Rose (Keith) Swanson, Jerry (Evelyn) Nordquist, Gordon (Pat) Nordquist, Phyllis Anderson, Mary Lou (Dale) Schauls, and Cheryl (Steve Johnson) Nordquist: 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation for Margaret Nordquist will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Williamson ~ White Funeral Home, 222 Harriman Avenue North, Amery, Wisconsin and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Elim Lutheran Church in Range, Wisconsin. Interment will be at Elim Lutheran Cemetery.
