Marion Ruth (Babcock) Cain
Age 92 of Amery WI, died at Golden Age Manor on Thursday, May19, 2016.
Marion was born on April 25, 1924 in Montgomery, NY to Ruth and Orval Babcock.
She grew up in Montgomery, NY. She lost her brother William (Billy) as a child to spinal meningitis, and she survived a couple years of rheumatic fever. Marion was at the top of her class in high school. She worked at the Clam Shell INN, and then a woolen mill. After graduating business school, she worked at the New Haven Railroad. She became a born again Christian on her way home from Catskill Camp somewhere around this time in her life. She liked her job at the railroad and worked there until she was married to Orin Boardman Cain Jr. on the 3rd of July, 1947, whom she met at a wedding for one of Orin's buddies.
Marion and her family moved to Wisconsin and lived in a tiny farm guest house in the Amery area for their first year together. She and her family moved back to NY with her parents the following year and they found another farm to live and work on until Marion's dad bought a small farm that they could rent and operate. She had 5 boys while living in NY. In 1959, she and her family moved back to the Amery area and rented and worked a farm until they were able to buy their own farm from Orin's folks. She gave birth to another boy in 1965. She and her family were never economically rich but even with 6 children, Marion and Orin were always able to provide food and shelter. They provided a good country environment for raising their 6 boys.
Marion divorced Orin in 1972, and moved to Clear Lake, WI where she finished raising her youngest son. She later moved to Amery, then back to Clear Lake, then to Turtle Lake, and finally back to Amery.
In 2008 she admitted herself into Golden Age Manor while battling a viral infection. She lived there until her passing. For a time she was able to get out of the manor often including church on Sundays. In the last several years her ventures out of the manor have been limited to about once a week when family would take her out to breakfast or lunch and a ride through the countryside. Marion enjoyed those outings and she always lit up as soon as she knew she was going to go for a ride. Her last outing was on April 8th of this year where she got to sit at a picnic table in a park and admire the tall trees and rushing water of the nearby river while she enjoyed an entire piece of freshly baked apple pie with coffee.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents Orval and Ruth Babcock, her brother Billy, her ex-husband Orin, and her son Ron.
Marion is survived by children David, Paul, Rod, Shawn, and Tylor, daughters-in-law, grandchildren Michael, Daniel, Wade, Luke, Adam, Rachael, Alex, Alana, and Nathan, and 13 great grandchildren.
A special thank you to her friends who brought her to church as long as she was able, and thank you so much to the good folks at the manor for the care that Marion got while she was there.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Williamson ~ White Funeral Home, 222 Harriman Avenue North, Amery, WI. There will be a visitation on Monday 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Clear Lake Cemetery in Clear Lake, Wisconsin.
