Marjorie Nelson, a long-time resident of the Amery area, died Tuesday the 9th of June, 2015 at Amery Memory Care Center after battling cancer.
She was born in 1921 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Carl and Mary (Nelson) Bloomquist. Marjorie moved to Amery in 1924 where she attended Oak Grove School and graduated from Amery High School in 1939. She continued her education at the Chicago School of Business and earned her degree in bookkeeping and office practice.
Marjorie then moved to Eureka, California where she became the city clerk. It was in Eureka she met her husband Lorenz (Larry) Nelson and they were married on September 14, 1941. Larry then went into the service on March 17, 1942 and Marjorie headed to Washington D.C. to work in the Office of Price Administration. After Larry was discharged from the war they returned to California where she worked for the U.S. Landing Aids Experiment Station. In 1947 they moved back to Amery to take over Marjorie's family farm after her parent's death. In 1951 their son, Lorenz (Cookie) was born.
In 1949 she was elected as the Town Clerk for the Town of Garfield where she held the position until 2005, setting the record at the time for the longest public elected official in Wisconsin. Marjorie also worked at Fabri-Tek from 1966-1976 in accounting.
Marjorie loved traveling with her family, flower gardening, bowling (on teams for 30 years), square dancing and spending time with friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her 2 sisters, Myrtle Manville and Margaret West, her brother, Leonard Bloomquist, her husband, Lorenz and her daughter-in-law Hazel.
She is survived by her son, Lorenz II, granddaughter Kari White, grandson, Lorenz III and great-grandchildren Katelyn and Matthew White as well as other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Deronda Lutheran Church in rural Amery, Wisconsin. There will be a visitation for the hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Deronda Cemetery.
