Obituary

Marvin LeRoy Wilberg, "Marv", age 94, of Woodbury, Minnesota, joined his Heavenly Father on April 4, 2024, at Woodwinds Hospital.

Marv was born on December 26, 1929, in Fenton, Iowa, son of Martin and Eda (Johannesen) Wilberg.  Marv met Mary Genise (Clare), the love of his life, at a dance in Iowa 70 years ago.  They were married June 18, 1955, and enjoyed nearly 69 years of marriage.

Marv worked on his family farm in Iowa as a boy, then enlisted in the Army after his college education.  He drove an ambulance, helping fellow soldiers during the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge during the Korean War.  After his military duty, he learned telegraphy and worked for the railroad, traveling from station to station, before landing a communications position at the Burlington Northern headquarters in downtown St. Paul.  After leaving Estherville, Iowa Marv and Mary lived in St. Paul for 10 years, where they raised their two daughters and four sons.  In 1972, Marv's love of farming inspired him to purchase 35 acres in Somerset, Wisconsin on the Apple River, where he built a large home and a hobby farm to raise cattle and chickens.   After retiring at the age of 60, they sold the farm and traveled around the country in an RV.  They visited all 50 states before buying a cabin on Wapogasset Lake in Amery, WI and a park model home in Mesa, AZ.  They were "snowbirds" for more than 25 years before moving to Woodbury, MN in 2020.

He was a loyal and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and friend.  He enjoyed telling jokes, attending the MN State Fair, playing water volleyball and billiards, and he was a devout Christian.

Marv is survived by his wife, Mary; brother, Ray; children, Barbara Van Guilder, Donna Carr, David (Lori), Michael (Tammy), Douglas, Joseph; grandchildren, Linda, Tristan, Michael, Teresa, Mariah, Lucas, Connor and Corina; great-grandchildren; Allyssa, Aubrey, Drake, Caleb, Hailey, Sydney, Amari, Shelby and Mariana. He was preceded in death by parents, Martin and Eda; sister Lois; brothers Llyod, Bob, Don, Wayne, Bob, Jerry; granddaughter, Danica.

We would like to extend an invitation to family and close family friends to join us on Friday, April 19, 3:00 pm, (Eulogy 4:00), at Oakwood Funeral Home in Maplewood, MN.

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
