Mary E. Hansen was born on May 26, 1920 in Amery, Wisconsin the daughter of Lars and Julia (Anderson) Hansen. She grew up on the family farm in rural Amery. She attended Amery High School graduating in 1937. She remained home on the farm and eventually operated the farm with her brothers for many years. Mary was a hard worker on the farm. When they were no longer milking cows she was able to do some traveling, especially out west. Mary loved old time dance, especially with good friend Harry Plihal. Mary was a caretaker for much of her family. She cared for her brothers and her sister Edna who moved back to the farm after working in the twin cities all her life. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting as well as doing needle point. She also showed her artistic touch with her plate and ceramics painting. After the death of her sister Edna it was difficult for Mary to remain on the farm. She moved to her sister's home in New
Auburn, Wisconsin where she remained until 2004. Mary moved to an apartment on South Street in Amery where she stayed until this past January. After a short hospital stay she moved to Golden Age Manor. She was a resident there when she died on Monday evening, September 24, 2012 at the age of 92 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Carl, Norman, and Chris. She also lost two infant brothers George and Little Chris; sisters: Ellen Hansen, Georgia Scott, Louise Williams, Edna Hansen and Leona Chatfield. Left to mourn are nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Amery. There will be a visitation time for the hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Volga Cemetery in rural Amery.
