Merritt Martin Glinski, age 87 of Amery, WI passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Golden Age Manor in Amery. He was born on May 4, 1927 in Rolling Prairie, IN to Martin and Helen (Santor) Glinski and grew up in nearby Crown Pointe. Shortly after he graduated from high school in 1946, he moved with his parents and younger siblings to a farm in Turtle Lake, WI. Rather than pursue a career of his own at that time, he dedicated himself to helping his parents and supporting the farm. After his parents passed away in the early sixties, he and his brother continued to run the farm but it was eventually sold. Merritt was very skilled in mechanical repairs and took on many different jobs over the next decades. He could rebuild or repair just about anything from small engines to vehicles and farm equipment. He preferred to restore current items to working condition over the wastefulness of throwing something away and purchasing new. As such, he took great joy in going to auctions to find treasures that others had dismissed as broken or worn out. He always carried plenty of spare change, important papers, dozens of keys and many small tools on his person, in his trademark bib overalls, to take advantage of the many opportunities to help someone with an on the spot repair. He remained a bachelor his entire life and lived at several locales in the Amery area in his later years, visiting his remaining family members as time permitted. In August, 2007, Merritt suffered a stroke that left him partially paralyzed. He resided in the Kinnic Long Term Care facility in River Falls and moved to the Golden Age Manor in Amery in 2011 to be closer to his sister, and lived there until his passing. Merritt had a wonderfully unique sense of humor, was an avid reader of newspapers and true to his frugal lifestyle, he was always a member of the clean plate club. In fact, it was usually quite difficult to discern that he'd used the plate and silverware during meals as he always left them spotless. He never complained about anything and he was a quiet, thoughtful man that was loved by all that came to meet his acquaintance. Merritt was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard Glinski and Richard Glinski; and sisters, Rosemary Glinski and Maxine Pesik. He is survived by several in-laws and many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. Private services will take place at St. Ann's Cemetery in Turtle Lake at a later date.
