Opal Valerie Burnyeat passed away on March 23, 2010 at the Willow Ridge Health Care Center in Amery, Wisconsin. She was born on November 4, 1926 in Eagle Bend, Minnesota to Tilford and Helen Thompson. Opal grew up in Eagle Bend and attended school there and in Minneapolis, and also spent a year in California attending art school. She returned to Minneapolis where she met her husband Harry. They were united in marriage on October 14, 1950 in Minneapolis and to this union 3 children were born; twin boys and later a daughter. Son Ronny, a twin to Randy passed away at 18 months of age. They raised their two children in Minneapolis where they made their home for 35 years. Upon retiring, they moved to Eagle Bend. Harry passed away in 1999, and Opal then moved to Amery in 2005 to live with her daughter and husband. She also lived at Evergreen apartments in Amery for 2 years, and recently at Willow Ridge due to health issues. Opal loved music, and playing piano which she liked to do at Evergreen. She also loved nature and animals, especially cats and birds. She is preceded in death by her parents, son Ronny, husband Harry Burnyeat, brother Don Thompson and sister Georgine Hampton. She is survived by son Randy, daughter Shanon (Don) Hayes, brothers Ronald (Lorna) Thompson, Lyndon (Shirley) Thompson; sisters Leona Holum, Norma (Dan) Bullock, and many loving nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the Congregational Church UCC in Amery with Reverend Barry Schaefer officiating. A visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. Interment will graveside services will take place in Eagle Bend, Minnesota at a later date. Funeral arrangements were made with the Williamson-White Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Amery.
