Phyllis Elaine (Warner) Humpal, age 103, died peacefully at home in New Richmond, Wisconsin on February 8, 2025. She loved and in return was deeply loved by her family and friends.

Phyllis was born on January 6, 1922 in Shell Lake, Wisconsin to Phillip Henry and Elvera Cecelia (Wahlberg) Warner. She was the eldest of six sisters in addition to their three brothers. She lived nearly her entire life in her beloved community of Deer Park, Wisconsin on the family farm and in town after her marriage to Alouis Humpal, her husband of 61 years. They were married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Amery, Wisconsin on June 19, 1943.

Phyllis attended school at Stanton School and Deer Park School with her siblings, often riding their horse named Fly or walking or skiing through the woods. She attended New Richmond High School and later earned her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate at Advotech (WITC) in New Richmond in 1972. She retired from the Baldwin Hospital at the age of 80.

Phyllis loved being in nature and enjoyed camping, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, hiking, bird watching, and traveling; she was an avid gardener and berry-picker. She made delicious food including the finest freshly-caught fried fish, baked beans, and preserves. She also decorated beautiful cakes for weddings, baptisms, and birthdays, along with cookies, mints and pizzelles. She brought joy to her kitchen and mastered the timing of turning the krumkake by dancing one round of the Macarena. When she wasn't at home or in the garden, she was often traveling the world with her sisters, exploring the outdoors, gathering rocks and shells, chaperoning, encouraging and celebrating all the events. Phyllis showed her love by showing up!

Phyllis created beautiful items with her hands - quilts, afghans, hats, booties, and hundreds of kitchen towels. She seldom was seen without her handiwork, yarn, and crochet hooks. These were gifts from her heart and treasures to cherish. She was a collector of all things from teacups to t-shirts and a saver of cards, buttons, and newspaper clippings. She enjoyed all types of word puzzles and especially jigsaw puzzles. And she dearly loved poetry, especially poems that she learned to recite as a child and continued to joyfully share throughout her life.

Phyllis was a fan of many sports including her Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, Wisconsin Badgers, and especially those played by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was their biggest fan, often on the sidelines and always cheering from afar. She also supported and valued her membership in the Swedish Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, Special Olympics, Relay for Life Cancer Walk, the ALS Association, and the New Richmond Heritage Center.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Al Humpal; parents, Phillip and Elvera Warner; brothers, Wahlberg, Harlan, and Loren Warner; sisters, Lorraine (Marvin) Frey, Anna Mae (Bill) Stuntz, Evie (Ira) Sumner, and Arlene Warner; son, Dave Humpal; brother-in-law, John Severson Sr.; and son-in-law, Paul McAndrew.

Phyllis is survived by daughter, Elaine McAndrew of New Richmond, WI; son, Frank (Shari) Humpal of North Pole, AK; and daughter-in-law, Pam Humpal (Mike Elmer) of Amery, WI; grandchildren, Carrie (Tim) Sellner of Minneapolis, MN, Mike (Landa) McAndrew of New Richmond, WI, Kristi (Morgan) Boatman of North Pole, AK, Kandi Olson of Amery, WI, Matt (Ariel) Humpal of Amery, WI, and Ryan (Rachel) Humpal of Amery, WI; great-grandchildren, Emma, Franklin, and Phillip Sellner, Tyler McAndrew, Kalina (Shane) Pavlovsky, Scott, Adam, Caleb, Jordan Boatman, Hannah (Tyler) Nicholson, Cody (Kelsey) Olson, Kylee (Sam) Black, Chloe Olson, Graeme, Finn, Rory, Gavin, and Bentley Humpal; great-great-grandchildren, Nathan, Tristan, Aubree, and Albert Boatman, and Zayne Pavlovsky; sister, Ruth Severson; and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends, and her dear dog, Sadie.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Richmond, WI. Visitation will begin at 9:30AM, followed by the Mass at 11AM. A luncheon will follow the Mass at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Deer Park, WI.
